Join park staff for a volunteer workday at Seven Islands State Birding Park to remove invasive plant species from an area of the park as part of the TN Serves Monthly Service Challenge and in support of NEEF's National Public Lands Day. We will be working on cutting and removing several species of invasive plant species, including Privet, Autumn Olive, Multiflora Rose, Amur Honeysuckle, Japanese Honeysuckle, and other vines. Cutting hand tools and work gloves will be available for volunteers to use, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own if they have them. Please bring bottled water with you and wear closed-toed footwear. Volunteers should plan on meeting Ranger Stephanie at the main parking lot off of Kelly Lane by the Bluebird Barn on Saturday, September 21 at 9:00am. If you have questions regarding this volunteer workday please contact Ranger Stephanie at stephanie.mueller@tn.gov or 865-333-8270.
TN Serves Monthly Service Challenge:
First Lady Maria Lee invites Tennesseans to join her in her efforts to transform our state through service. Each month, a new mission will be posted as motivation for us all to roll up our sleeves and serve our communities. September’s monthly challenge is serving Tennessee State Parks!
NEEF’s National Public Lands Day:
The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) is celebrating 30 years of NPLD this year! It is the nation's largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. Established in 1994 and held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, this celebration brings out thousands of volunteers to help restore and improve public lands around the country.
