On Sunday, June 25th Savage Gulf State Park will be hosting a search and rescue training day at the newly built Greeter Falls trail and staircase. This training day will be a practice carryout where park staff, rescue squads, and fire department members will work together to develop new and efficient ways to perform rescue operations on the new trail and staircase. This training is to be a collaboration of personnel and staff from Savage Gulf State Park/Tennessee State Parks and the Rescue Squads and firefighters that come to assist the park with lengthy and technical rescues. This training will be an all-day practice scenario where an injured patient would be taken from the bottom of the Lower Greeter Falls plunge pool and transported to the parking lot. This scenario would be combining multiple parts of search and rescue such as medical, high angle, and incident command. A major objective of this training day would be for park staff and rescue squad members to practice moving a patient up the brand new staircase, but also the practicing of using ropes to lift a patient out of the lower plunge pool area.
This training will be conducted on Sunday, June 25th beginning at 9:00 AM at the Savage West Parking Lot (550 Greeter Falls Rd, Altamont, TN 37301) and is expected to last 4-5 hours. Rescue squad and fire departments will be required to fill out and bring a liability waiver (Linked Here: https://tnstateparks.com/assets/pdf/additional-content/liability-waiver.pdf). Waivers will be available at the start of the training as well. This is expected to be a long day of training in warm conditions, please bring plenty of water, food, boots, and weather appropriate clothing for this training.
