Have you ever heard the term “Legacy Trash”? To learn more, please join park staff along with the Harpeth River Conservancy to help clean up trash from past flooding events and negative human activity! Show up to clean up, and let’s protect the water quality and environmental habitat of the pond at the park. This activity includes a ½ mile hike along an established park trail to a secluded pond that was used as a dumping ground many years prior to being a State Park. At the pond, we need volunteers to remain on the near side of the pond to unload boats and volunteers to traverse a narrow rocky footpath leading to the trash on the far side of the pond. Trash collected from the far bank of the pond will be loaded into the canoes provided and shuttled across the lake then unloaded and transported for proper disposal. Recyclables will be transported to a recycling center. Please note some of the trash removed may be bulky, heavy, rusty and may have sharp edges. We recommend that you wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt, work boots/tennis shoes, and wear work gloves at all times. Work gloves, trash grabbers, trash bags, and hand sanitizer will be provided.
