Description

Join Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Cameron and fellow nature enthusiasts for a hands-on BioBlitz at the Head of Sequatchie! During this interactive event, we’ll work together to document as many species of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms as possible around the Head of Sequatchie. Whether you're a seasoned naturalist or just beginning to explore the world of nature observation, this is a fun and meaningful way to learn about local biodiversity and contribute to real-world science.

All you need is a smartphone or camera to record your observations. We'll show you how to use the free app iNaturalist to upload your findings and become part of a global community of citizen scientists.

Citizen science is the practice of public participation in scientific research—and your contributions matter. Each observation helps scientists, land managers, and conservationists better understand and protect the natural world. You don’t need to be an expert—every photo, every sighting, and every question plays a valuable role.

No prior experience is necessary, but if you already use iNaturalist, we’d love to include you in the official project. Please email your iNaturalist username to Cameron.D.Johnson@tn.gov to be added to the participant list.

The BioBlitz will be begin at 9:00 AM CST when the park gate opens and will run until 3:30 PM CST. Participants are welcome to join in at any point during the program. Please bring water, snacks and appropriate footwear.

Let’s explore, discover, and celebrate the wild wonders of the Cumberland Trail—together!
