Fort Southwest Point State Historic Park

Fort Southwest Point State Park is located in Roane County, at the confluence of the Tennessee and Clinch Rivers. The site preserves and protects the location of a federal military fort built in 1797. In the 1790s, Fort Southwest Point stood on the frontier of the United States at the border with Cherokee lands. It was established to help protect Cherokee lands and American settlers. From 1801 to 1807, the fort became a place where leaders met, traded, and worked with the Cherokee. The fort was decommissioned in 1811.

Today, visitors can explore reconstructed fort buildings built on the original foundations, discover museum exhibits, walk along Watts Bar Lake, and experience the stories that helped shape Tennessee and the nation.
