Long Hunter State Park
The 2,600 acres which make up this area became a state park in 1974 from US Army Corps of Engineers land and has three sections, Couchville Lake, Baker’s Grove, and Bryant Grove. Long Hunter State Park offers a variety of recreational activities including fishing and hiking and has two boat launch ramps on J. Percy Priest Lake, a group camp for non-profits, a backcountry campsite, meeting facility and a visitor center. The more than 30 miles of hiking trails provide a variety of terrain and habitats and range from pleasant strolls to longer jaunts for the more adventurous. Trails include a self-guided, paved arboretum trail , the Reading Ranger Story Trail and the five and a half -mile Volunteer Trail that follows the lakeshore.
Long Hunter State Park preserves and protects acres of Middle Tennessee cedar glade habitat, while providing opportunities for hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, jogging, fishing and similar outdoor recreation. Rangers and Friends group members offer programs to stimulate interest in history and nature. The park provides visitors a place to view its wonders of nature beside still waters.
