Description

Have you ever tasted sorghum molasses?  Since before the Civil War, sorghum molasses has been a main source of sweetener for remote communities like Pall Mall, Tennessee.  Juice squeezed from the sorghum cane, a relative of sugar cane, was much sought after due to its sweet, syrupy taste.  The juice was boiled over a fire until it turned into a thick, dark syrup, and often eaten on biscuits, pancakes, and cornmeal.   Before the cane can be milled however, it has to be stripped of its leaves, and cut out of the field.  For that, we need your help.  Be a part of a long tradition in the Wolf River Valley as we process our sorghum patch and "cut the cane".  No experience necessary!  Wear clothes and shoes that you are willing to get dirty.  Lightweight, long sleeve shirts and pants are recommended, as well as work gloves.
