Invasive species are organisms that are not native to a particular area, but which spread easily and overwhelm ecosystems with negative impacts. They outcompete native plants for resources like sunlight, soil nutrition, and water. Local native animals and insects aren't able to recognize and use them for food or habitat. They also may clog waterways, spread disease, and increase a landscape's vulnerability to wildfire. Removing invasive species can help restore balance and improve biodiversity and health of an ecosystem.
