Pollination Observation Team

Expired

Description

Roan Mountain State Park is looking for volunteers to assist the park in determining what pollinators are using our pollinator fields along the highway running through the park as well as at the Miller Farmstead.  Pollinators and other wildlife benefited by these fields are recorded by photographing any and all insects, birds, mammals, or other wildlife that are in the area of these fields and uploaded to iNaturalist on a smartphone device or computer.  Knowing what is living in and using our fields will help us to better manage for those plants and animals.

Volunteer opportunities are available weekly each Friday-Sunday from April through November of 2023.  Training opportunities to learn how to log pollinators into iNaturalist will be offered each month, so be sure to attend a training session before registering to participate in observations.  Each volunteer day is limited to 10 participants so not to overcrowd observation sites.
