On Wednesday, December 10th from 1:00-3:00PM EST, Roan Mountain State Park is looking for 10 volunteers to help spread pine straw across our freshly seeded 1.25-acre pollinator fields along Highway 143. This workday event will involve lifting baled pine straw and spreading it out across the two fields. Straw bales will be on site along the edges of the field.
This work day event will have volunteers working alongside park staff and members of Patchwork Meadows, a professional native landscaping business out of Black Mountain, NC. We will be meeting and working at the Roan Mountain State Park Picnic Shelter #1 located directly north of the Miller Farmstead road on Highway 143.
Weather can be unpredictable this time of year, so we recommend dressing in layers and bringing rain gear. Be sure to pack a water bottle as well. The park will provide work gloves for volunteers on site. If you have any questions about this work event, feel free to contact park ranger Philip Hylen at (423)361-3185 or at Philip.Hylen@tn.gov.
