Our staircase heading down to Bunkum Cave is in need of a makeover. This summer, we will be replacing many of the older wooden pieces on the structure with new heavy duty metal stairs that will last longer and are safer for guests. We need your help carrying these stairs down to the cave where we will be doing the work. All that we will be doing on this day is carrying stairs from the top of a separate access trail, down to Bunkum Cave. We have about forty stairs that need to be brought down, and each one weighs approximately twenty pounds.
Once all of the stairs have been brought down to the cave, the next phase of our project can begin. This will include replacing the old wooden stairs and bringing them back out of the trail, but that will not be part of this volunteer opportunity.
Water and gloves will be provided to all participants, but if you have a refillable water bottle or personal gloves, feel free to bring them as well. We will be taking plenty of breaks, as the terrain is very strenuous and we will be carrying heavy stairs up and down large hills.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us, and we greatly appreciate your consideration!
