This year we will be meeting at the Roan Mountain State Park Visitor Center at 2:00PM EST and working until 5:00PM (3 hours) to remove non-native Chinese Privet from the edge of forests and fields near the Visitor Center and along Highway 143. All tools, gloves, and eye protection will be provided by the park, but if you have your own favorite pair of gloves and a good work shovel, feel free to bring it along. The work day will begin and end at the Visitor Center where restrooms will be present. Feel free to contact Park Ranger Philip Hylen with any additional questions about our event. "Now in its 12th year, the statewide Weed Wrangle® is a volunteer effort dedicated to rescuing our public parks and green spaces from non-native invasive species. Through hands-on removal of particularly harmful trees, vines, and flowering plants, Weed Wrangle® volunteers learn, practice, and develop a habit of maintaining areas free of non-native invasive plants. They also encourage replanting with native species in removal areas. By engaging our volunteers and challenging them to take action in their own spaces, we aim to create a movement that will have the greatest impact on the invasive plant population." - Cayce McAlister Garden Club of Nashville @Weed Wrangle Park: Roan Mountain State Park Join Roan Mountain State Park on Saturday, March 7th for our annual Weed Wrangle event to remove invasive plants from across the park and restore sites with native plants that thrive and benefit wildlife in those ecosystems.
