Volunteer: Historical Swimming Hole BeautificationJoin Ranger Sutton as we clean up an old swimming hole by removing vegetation from the beach area. We will be using clippers and loppers to remove the undergrowth that has accumulated over the years and covering the historical stonework. The volunteer event will be roughly 4 hours of clearing and removing vegetation, so make sure to bring anything you would need to work outside including water and appropriate clothing. Bug spray is recommended. We will be meeting at the park office and then driving down to the site. Canebrakes once were found throughout the Southeast and are now listed as critically endangered ecosystems. Volunteers can expect to use loppers and hand shears to remove lower and midstory plants to make room for River Cane. Meet at the bathrooms below the Hwy 136 Dam. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing for days weather conditions.
